Our 2024 Academy Highlights
2024 has been an exciting and extremely busy year, we have offered more education to even more Healthcare Professionals than ever before. We continue to evolve our educational offerings and by expanding our team we are now able to continue our commitment to education within the stoma care speciality that impacts positively and improve lives.
Principles and Practice of Stoma Care Module
In 2024, we continued our successful collaboration with De Montfort University to offer the Principles and Practice of Stoma Care module. This comprehensive programme, available at both Degree (Level 6) and Master’s (Level 7) levels, provided nurses with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in adult stoma care.
Participants engaged in expert-led sessions, hands-on workshops, and real-world case studies, all designed to enhance their clinical practice. With a focus on holistic patient care, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary teamwork, the module has helped many advance their professional development.
We’re proud to have delivered six study days in both Spring and Autumn 2024 at Salts Academy in Birmingham, continuing to offer valuable educational experiences for stoma care professionals at every stage of their career. In 2023 we were proud to celebrate 10 years of collaboration with De Montfort University.

ACE- Antegrade Continent Enema
In 2024, we held two highly successful Antegrade Continent Enema (ACE) Study Days, catering to specialist stoma care nurses supporting individuals with ACEs. These events provided an in-depth understanding of the ACE procedure, from surgical formation and home-based irrigation techniques to personalising care routines for improved patient outcomes.
Attendees left with enhanced confidence and knowledge to empower their patients and families, particularly in fostering independence and managing potential complications. The combination of interactive sessions and evidence-based insights made these study days a true highlight of our educational offering.
Paediatric Study Days
2024 saw two Advanced Paediatric Study Days, designed for specialist stoma care nurses working with neonates and children. These sessions delivered valuable insights into paediatric-specific pathologies, neonatal skin care, and stoma management techniques.
Attendees developed their skills in preventing and managing complications, exploring evidence-based practices, and tailoring product selection for younger patients. With a focus on holistic care, these study days also emphasised the emotional and educational support required by families, ensuring the best outcomes for children with stomas. add beginners
Siting Workshops
In 2024, our Siting Workshops provided hands-on, interactive learning for registered nurses responsible for stoma siting as part of their clinical role. Through detailed abdominal assessments and practical discussions, attendees mastered the skills to ensure optimal stoma placement tailored to patient lifestyles.
The workshops also explored legal and professional implications, preparing nurses to advocate for their patients and deliver the highest standards of pre-surgical care. These sessions underscored the importance of siting in achieving positive patient outcomes and were a vital part of our 2024 educational offerings.
Back to Basic Study Days
In June 2024, the Back to Basics Study Day at the Salts Academy provided a foundational yet impactful learning experience for registered nurses and healthcare assistants. This CPD-accredited event focused on the essentials of stoma creation and care, building confidence and practical skills among attendees.
We extended our Back to Basics Roadshows to even more locations, reaching cities such as Sunderland, North Wales, Liverpool, and both North and South London. These sessions delivered accessible, high-quality training directly to local healthcare teams, ensuring a broader audience could benefit from this invaluable education.
