Accredited by the RCN and CPD, our 2022 National Study Day shone a light on invisible illnesses, namely Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

This included presentations by the following healthcare professionals.

Introduction to Ulcerative Colitis & Crohn’s Disease and how the role of IBD CNS has impacted on care

Melanie Love, Gastroenterology Clinical Nurse Specialist, University of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

Medical therapies for IBD and new biologics

Dr Oliver Brain, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Surgery for Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s

Mr Bruce George, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Faecal Transplantation – “the future!!!”

Professor Andrew Beggs, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

A real highlight of the day was hearing a presentation by our special Guest Speaker, Amy Dowden, who has Crohn’s disease herself. Amy is best known as one of the professional dancers on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, and she shared her own journey, which included many years of being undiagnosed, with our audience. Amy received a standing ovation for her open and moving presentation on her journey.
